Officers’ Pool 1969 / 2016

195 × 310 cm

In the 1960’s, spring-fed pools were constructed in the Golan Heights for the use of Syrian army officers. Since the capture of the Golan Heights by Israel, they have become popular sites for hikers, nature lovers, and solitude seekers. The body of work made from these slides reveals a seeming contradiction – the inextricable mixing of leisure, recreation, and escapism with politics, realism, and history.
