This period saw the consolidation of a central body of work composed of color photographs created with a 4/5 camera. Most images were taken in Israel, with a small subset taken while I conducted research in Poland and Lithuania. The places I chose to photograph are devoid of the recognizable and predictable historical baggage. They are not memorial sites, battle zones, tourist sites, holy sites, etc. Rather, they are places in which routine, marginal, temporal and ephemeral human activity occurs. Short cuts, improvised paths created by those who trod along them, construction sites of suspended projects. The surrounding environment is a platform for human activity that is esoteric, everyday, or tied to leisure time spent outside the home; for private routines that nevertheless impact and shape the public sphere.
The photographed event is always minor and the central action described is an observation that involves the duration of a wait time and exposes layers of fragile human reality, a threatened and vulnerable existence.
