Carob Tree

Carob, MIkve-Israel, 2012

The carob tree is indigenous to the Mediterranean. In antiquity its seeds were used to measure weight, using a metric still known as the carat. In the 1950’s there were attempts to use carobs as fodder for livestock. Numerous trees were planted for this purpose, but they are currently abandoned and evoke archeological ruins or the remains of dinosaurs from a different era.
