The two horsemen are prison guards, securing the Damon Prison on Mount Carmel. The exposed concrete tower appears in the background of the image. The horsemen are resting, but also being photographed. This image evokes a wide range of references, from the 200-year rule of the crusaders in Palestine, to an analogy to the conflict and the future existence of the state, and up to the Marlborough man (including Richard Prince’s version).
