Sea of Galilee
Since the end of the 19th century, the Sea of Galilee has been one of the most frequently photographed places in the region for various religious, economic, and political reasons.
The original image of the sea, which is really a lake, was broken up into a sequence of close-ups and duplicated onto 35 mm slides, which were projected on a loop of some 80 slides in a carousel. Abstract images of the water’s surfaces, showing the scratches on the old slides, gradually open up, as through a zoom-lens, revealing a longshot, panoramic view of the red Sea of Galilee. This process of transformation repeats itself on a loop.
